What do students/teachers have to say about Area 31 Programs?
Courtney Bradshaw, former Area 31 student – Health Occupations, Monrovia High School graduate--“I am attending IVY Tech and going into the nursing program. I’ve moved out of my parent’s house because I can support myself now. Area 31 puts one foot in the real world and opens the door to other opportunities. It also allowed me to do the honors diploma along with Core 40. I’m way ahead of many of my classmates.”
“Leyna Seaton, former Area 31 student – Printing, Avon High School graduate--"I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do in life, so I took a chance and enrolled in Area 31. I learned so much at Area 31 it was insane. I understand the printing process and can design for the needs of the press – that means I will be so much farther ahead of my competition when I graduate from college.”
Alex Faith, Area 31 student from Speedway High School, Law Enforcement--“Area 31 will give you a head start and you can earn college credits. I will go to IUPUI with ROTC and study criminal justice. That will hopefully help me to become an officer – eventually I want to become an FBI or DEA agent. When you’re enrolled in Area 31, you get hands-on experience – it isn’t just reading out of a text book.”
Kelsee Macer, Area 31 student from Ben Davis High School, Emergency Medical Services--“I intend to go to college and be pre-med – I want to be an emergency room physician. I am getting my EMT certification so I can be a paramedic while in college to help defray those costs. No matter where you think your future will take you – be it Harvard or McDonald’s, you will learn something that will benefit you. Besides, it’s so much fun! The bottom line is, Area 31 gives you opportunities. You aren’t just sitting in a classroom taking notes.”
Mike Trammel, Owner/Operator, Big O Tires, Brownsburg--“Area 31’s training is wonderful – we can hire students immediately when they graduate and know their training is solid. I have participated with Area 31 for 10 years. I’ve hired eight graduates in that time, and I still have three grads that went through their training and are still with me. That speaks volumes about their program.”
Jeff Alkire, Edward Rose of Indiana--“Area 31’s heating and air conditioning program has been superior to other training programs and has been beneficial for the coop students as well as our company. We have hired many of the students after graduation, and will likely continue to do so in the future.”
Dennis Goins, Area 31 teacher, TV Broadcasting--“Our TV broadcasting graduates are working throughout the world. Students get experience in e-news gathering, studio production, working for actual clients and working on award-winning projects to build their resumes. Those who go on to study telecommunications in college have a real advantage because of the hands-on experience they gain in our program.”
Barb Lyter, Area 31 Business Department Chair--“Area 31 has strong partnerships with Eli Lilly and Rolls Royce. Our students are given the opportunity to have a mentor while still in high school. To be given an office space and responsibility helps students gain valuable experience and know that this isn’t play time – it’s real world. They rise to the responsibility and the work experience is unprecedented.”
Mark White, Area 31 teacher, Landscape Management--“Our students are well-qualified, not only in their related fields, but also given the skills to succeed in the workplace. Whether or not they go on to college, they are taught skills to be successful after high school.”
Charles Bravard III, CT Engineering Chairperson, Eli Lilly and Company--“Five years ago, Industrial Cooperative Training (ICT) partnered with Area 31 Career Center to provide internships for engineering students with outstanding results. Students receiving this internship opportunity are well prepared, highly motivated, and demonstrate engineering knowledge learned through the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) program. It is evident that Area 31 is a leader committed to preparing students for engineering, by providing positive coaching and real-world opportunities for growth. I appreciate the many hours teachers and administrators work to provide these opportunities and look forward t continuing this partnership with Area 31 Career Center.”
Marcus Peck, former Area 31 student – Engineering, Ben Davis High School--"Being involved in the PLTW program opened many doors to my future as a student pursuing a professional engineering career. Area 31 courses taught me the fundamentals of engineering, and participating as a Co-op at Lilly allowed me to use that knowledge while teaching me time management and proper etiquette in a business environment. It was an all-around excellent experience!”
