Student Writing

The following student writing examples are from Ms. Yoder's fourth grade class.

Gabby Brooks:
My life's commitment is important to me. I have made a promise to myself and my mom that I will go to college at Harvard University. I have believed that I can do it because I've never failed. I get A's and B's on tests, but I just keep working harder to get A's. I return my homework daily and do what the teacher tells me. My report cards so far have been all A's. I have had a great attendance record for a long time now. I study for tests that come up every week. I listen to the teacher during mini-lessons or when we go over homework or practice ISTEP work or even morning work. My commitment will be connected with me for as long as I'm still going to elementary school, middle school, and high school. I can't wait to find out if I get a scholarship to my dream college, Harvard University.

Victoria Briscoe:

One time in our life we have to make a commitment. Whether kid or adult, we all make commitments. If you make a commitment, you are promising to do something. Like I made a commitment to myself saying I would get good grades and high scores on ISTEP so I could get into a really good college. My brother also made a commitment to get into the Marines, so he could fight for freedom for our country. When you honor your commitments, it is a good thing and if you do the things you have committed to do, you will feel good about yourself.

Jaylen Lynn:

I want to make a commitment to go to college, get a job for a baseball career, to get married and have kids. Commitment is a very important thing. A commitment is when you do something you've promised forever. The college that I want to go to is Indiana University. The baseball team that I want to be on is the New York Yankees. Commitment is a very important thing.

Morgan English:

My commitment is to improve my 2nd semester math grade. This math grade is very important to me because I need to go to the 5th grade, middle school, high school, and especially college. When I get out of college, I hope to have a really good job like a lawyer because when you get a good job, much better opportunities come. A commitment is when you promise something and never give up until you accomplish it. I will always keep my commitments until the day I die!

Reyce Buchanan:

The commitments I made were to help the environment by picking up trash and recycling. My second commitment is to do well in school and get A's and B's. My mom will get me a Nintendo 3D DS if I get good grades. The third commitment is to help the homeless by getting my cousins to help me build a lot of houses.

Alethia Dickerson:

Commitment is an important value. I promised and made a commitment to myself and my entire family. That commitment was that I would never give up, keep going and never stop, no matter what. I made that commitment because you never know if someday something good will happen to you and it could make a difference in your life and in other people's lives as well. That is my life's commitment and you remember to never give up either.
