About the Seniors: The Program's Ultimate Goal-Graduation and College Bound
101 of our 102 student athletes graduated on time!
- 4 or 4% General Diploma
- 49 or 48.5% Core 40 Diplomas
- 48 or 47.5% Honors Diploma
30% of the Senior Top 30 were athletes. Again this year, a student-athlete received an International Baccalaureate Diploma. In addition, 33, or 32% of the seniors were National Honor Society members. The graduating seniors had an overall cumulative GPA of 3.1450.

Overview of the Other Athletes
All four grades achieved Cumulative GPAs of 3.0 or above. Again in 2010-2011, the overall cumulative GPA for all the athletes has risen.

When the program was started, a major goal was and has been trying to help as many athletes as possible to achieve a C+ average which is a 2.3. The athletes understand that colleges are looking for more than a just getting by performance.
- 80.5% C+ (2.3) [Ben Davis High School's Scholar-Athlete Level] or above with a Cumulative GPA of 3.3807 up 0.2063 from the 2010 average of 3.1744.
- 19.5% of the grades are below the C+ goal with a Cumulative GPA average of 1.8962.

Tutoring - There were 1,069 contact hours with an average of 15 students per session Spring Semester. The highest attendance was on April 21, 2011 with 32 students.
- Open to all Ben Davis High School students in D102, not just the athletes
- 6:30 a.m. added Spring 2011 [New]
- Mondays-Thursdays from 3:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m., plus up to 6:00 p.m. as needed for students being picked up by a parent after work [New Second Semester]
- One-on-one assignments of National Honor Society tutors with students as needed
- NHS tutors in The Learning Center, BDE students, and ENL Tutoring Center [New]
- Assignment of teachers to Study Table along with NHS tutors [New Second Semester]
- Tutoring during the three hours each of the two days of ECA [End-of-Course Assessment] testing [New Second Semester]
National Honor Society-31 Seniors and 34 Juniors
- Identification of athletes invited to apply for membership
- Help with filling out application and getting teacher recommendations
- Help for seniors accepted-balance athletic responsibilities and complete community service/tutoring hours

FAFSA
- Opened D102 computer lab for help for sign-up for two weeks before deadline Parents came after work so the lab is open until after 6:00 p.m. and up to about 8:00 p.m. Parents of non-athletes were also helped.

No Place to Hide
- E-mails to teachers for one-on-one communication two weeks before final grades to track how failing students were doing. This played a significant role in 466 F's being recovered! [New Second Semester]
- Contacting by teachers about discipline and grade issues increased and were addressed in a very timely manner

Summer School Sign-Up and Eligibility
- Identification of potential ineligible players as of midterm and last progress report; signing up of the players for summer school classes; those needing summer school were identified in advance and signed up before the end of school. [New Second Semester]
- Contact with parents and players about completion of incompletes [Ninth Grade Center-three days to complete] and summer school for fall eligibility and credit recovery
- On-site coordination Monday-Thursday, all of June 2011 summer school-preparation of year end statistics and final report
- Monitoring of summer school completion and grades [New Summer School]
- NHS tutors used in summer school for the first time ever
