Wayne Township Special Services Intervention Services
What is Response to Intervention?Response to Intervention (RTI) involves a process which
- identifies students at risk
- utilizes highly effective and evidence-based strategies that have been designed to address areas of need
- assesses progress so that instruction can be adjusted
The MSD of Wayne Township provides intervention services in a three-tiered model.
Tier 1 involves core instruction and universal screenings provided to ALL students.
Tier 2 involves core instruction and universal screenings, but also targets SOME students with small group instruction and more frequent progress monitoring. Tier 3 involves both the interventions in Tier 1 and Tier 2, but also provides intensive and individualized instruction to a FEW students with more frequent progress monitoring.
For more information on Response to Intervention, please contact your child’s assistant principal or guidance counselor.
Behavior Intervention Plans can be developed for students experiencing chronic behavioral problems at school. After the completion of a Functional Behavioral Assessment, a team of teachers will create a Behavior Plan. Contact your child’s assistant principal or guidance counselor for more information.
Section 504 Plans can be developed for students who have a disability (permanent or temporary) that is substantially limiting one or more life functions and who would not be eligible for special education services. Contact your child’s assistant principal or guidance counselor for more information.
Homebound services are provided to students enrolled in MSD Wayne Township who are not able to attend school for 20 or more school days due to a serious medical condition. Contact the Director of Special Services at 988-8635 for more information.
Educational evaluations can be completed when a student continues to struggle in the general education classroom and numerous academic/behavioral interventions have been attempted with supporting data collection. At this time, a referral for an educational evaluation may be made to determine if a student has a disability. Usually, this referral will start with a building level committee, called the Instructional Data Evaluation Analysis (IDEA) Team. This IDEA Team consists of a school administrator, teacher, parent, and other relevant school personnel. Parents may request a referral for an educational evaluation. At the elementary level, referral requests are directed to the Assistant Principal and at the secondary level, referral requests are directed to the student’s counselor. At this time, school personnel will inform parents of interventions attempted and additional interventions that might address the student’s need. If an educational evaluation is deemed necessary, the parents will be invited to attend a case conference meeting to discuss the evaluation and determine if the student is eligible for special education and related services. If the student is deemed eligible for special education services, the case conference committee will determine need and appropriate goals and services to address these needs.
