Mr. Dawes

Mr. Dawes

Brent Dawes has been teaching for 7 years and is in his fifth year at Ben Davis Ninth Grade Center and in his third year teaching at AVE. He received his Bachelor of Arts degrees in Physical Education, Health and Safety and Social Studies all from Purdue University in West Lafayette back in 2000. Brent is now currently working towards his Masters in Special Education at IUPUI. He is married to his beautiful wife of twelve years, Heather, and has three children: Jacob, 8, Jeremy, 5, and Juliana, 3. He is a very active person at 38-years-old belonging to a cycling team and competing in bike races throughout the year. Brent also gets up at 4 AM to workout several days a week. Brent is very active in the community he is the director of the Bret Neylon’s Race to Recovery 5K run/walk which benefits the Bret Neylon Paralysis Foundation. He is also the vice president on the board of directors to this foundation. Brent was awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2008 for his hours of civic participation. His hobbies include running, playing golf, fishing, spending time with his wife, and teaching his kids to ride bikes.

Mr. Evans

Mark Evans is a graduate from Franklin College where he majored in Health and Physical Education as well as played football for the Grizzlies. He is also currently working towards his masters to become an administrator through Ball State University. Mr. Evans currently teaches AVID, Physical Education, and Health at Chapel Hill 7th and 8th Grade Center. Mr. Evans is in his 4th year there.

Mr. Evans is married to his beautiful wife Deidre, and has two children, daughter Abby, and son Jeremiah. Mr. Evans keeps busy by coaching football and working with the AVID program. Mr. Evans also is an IHSAA offical for Football, Basketball, and Softball. Mr. Evans loves to stay active and be "Fit For Life"!

Mrs. Lawrie

Mrs. Lawrie - Physical Education Teacher

Libby Lawrie recently retired after 34 years of teaching. She has a strong commitment to education, physical fitness and health. Mrs. Lawrie received her undergraduate degree from Indiana University and master’s degree in education from Butler University. She has spent 21 years teaching biology, science, health and physical education in the classroom and 13 years teaching in the virtual environment. Mrs. Lawrie is Achieve Virtual Education Academy’s virtual education specialist and physical education teacher.  She is also an adjunct instructor for the IUPUI School of Education, a national presenter, a My Big Campus Trainer and a virtual education evangelist. She is a member of iNACOL, ISTE, Future of Education, Global Education and Skype Educators.  She has received an IPL Golden Apple Award and was honored as Creative Biology Teacher of the Year.

Mrs. Lawrie is a life-long learner and has a strong comment to see each student succeed. She is a mother of three amazing adults. Her daughter Nikki (Miami of Ohio) is a biology/chemistry teacher, Kevin (Purdue University) is a graphic designer and Nate (Yale University), played six years in the NFL and currently is playing for the San Francisco 49ers. She has been blessed with a son-in-law Brian, who is a school principal, and two daughters-in-law Amanda, a teacher, and Smaranda, who is in the Asian-Pacific Leadership Program. She has four grandchildren (and one on the way), and loves to take them swimming.  Her grandchildren are always at her house playing the Wii, xBox, iPad and iPhone. Her husband, Chris, just retired from 35 years in education and still coaches football.
