History

It’s been 170 years since the first school was opened here in Wayne Township. But it wasn’t until June 11, 1962, that a Marion County Circuit Court judge signed an order creating the Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township.

What a rich 60-year history we are celebrating as a school district and community in 2022! MSD Wayne has grown dramatically over the years, from around 8,500 students in 1962 to more than 16,000 today. This growth has brought with it a wonderful diversity which defines us as a community that embraces all.

Some members of our community are from families that have lived in Wayne Township for generations. Others have just recently settled in Wayne as they start a new life in the United States. Many factors have led people to choose Wayne. All of us live in a place that uniquely blends deep roots and a strong vision for the future.

We invite you to join us as we mark another milestone in this wonderful community. We Are Wayne!
