Programming

Elementary Programming

The elementary program is designed to meet the needs of intellectually gifted students. There are two programming offerings that the school district provides at the elementary level, High Ability Cluster and Horizons.

High Ability Clustering is provided for students in grades kindergarten through sixth grade. This programming model uses data to identify students who are showing high potential for reasoning and thinking, and clusters them into a grade level classroom. This provides classroom teachers with the opportunity to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of these students.

The Horizons program is the MSD of Wayne Township’s self-contained high ability program. There are Horizons classrooms offered beginning at third grade. The Horizons program offers full-time, self-contained classrooms. Students enter the Horizons program through an identification process that examines many different data points. Qualifying students from the district attend one of two program locations; McClelland Elementary or Robey Elementary.

Elementary Horizons Grades 3-6 Attendance Areas

Qualifying students living within the attendance areas of Bridgeport, Garden City, Maplewood, McClelland, Rhoades, and Stout Field, attend McClelland Elementary.

Qualifying students living within the attendance areas of Chapel Glen, Chapelwood, North Wayne, Robey, and Westlake, attend Robey Elementary.

Junior High Programming

Junior High HONORS offers an accelerated and enriched curriculum in math, English/language arts, and science; students in the program are academically strong in one or all of the identified core subjects. Students enter the HONORS program through an identification process that examines many different data points. These classes are designed to better target and meet the needs of the diverse learners in the district. Students who are enrolled in one or more high ability classes are a part of the honors high ability program.
