Parent Involvement Commitment

Title I Parent Involvement and Commitment

M.S.D. of Wayne Township is committed to the goal of providing quality education for every child in the district. Everyone gains if schools and families team together to promote high achievement by our children. Neither home nor school can do the job alone. Parents play an extremely important role as children’s first teachers. Support for their children and for the school is critical to their children’s success at every step along the way.

The District Title I team and the school Title I team will work together with parents to annually review the Title I plans. These teams will jointly write the district and school Title I parent involvement policies, and together plan how to use the Title I funds to assist student learning.

The District Title I Parent Facilitator will assist the Title I schools in providing effective parent involvement strategies that will empower parents to help their children learn at home as well as at school. Examples include learning fairs and literacy nights.

The District Title I team and the school Title I teachers will help parents understand the state’s academic standards and core curriculum. These will be discussed at parent conferences and at parent learning events. Parents will also receive help with our township’s digital tools for parent information and communication.

The entire Title I team will work together to provide books at most Title I events for student home libraries. All of the schools will also distribute information regarding the local Parent Information Resource Center. Some of our schools have Title I Parent Resource Areas with materials designed to help parents be involved in their student’s learning.

Teachers and staff at each Title school will be instructed on the importance of working with parents as partners in the learning process. This information will be shared at staff meetings and in staff handbooks. Individual School Improvement Plans also often address the need for educators to value parent involvement.

The District Title I Parent Facilitator has a team of translators to help schools make sure that, as often as possible, all communication to parents is in a language that parents can understand.

Each Title I school will employ a Title I Parent Liaison to work as an advocate for the parents. This liaison will conduct home visits and work to improve home/school relationships. The District Title I Parent Facilitator will work with the school parent liaisons to make sure they receive the assistance they need to help parents. The entire Wayne Title I team will work to reasonably support any parent involvement request.

The District Title I Parent Facilitator will work with our Title I Pre-K classrooms and community preschools to make sure the children and parents of the community have a smooth transition to elementary school. We will give transition kits to our Pre-K students. We also will disperse transition information to community preschools, and we will work with Head Start programs for enrollment if possible.
