MSD Wayne Launches The Wayne Way Volunteer Award

MSD Wayne Launches The Wayne Way Volunteer Award

Because Some People Just Show Up—And We See You

You know who you are. You're the parent who somehow finds time between work shifts to run the book fair. The retiree who shows up every Tuesday to help kids sound out words. The community member who stays late to set up for the science fair or serves in the food pantry.

You do this work because you care—not for recognition, but because our kids matter to you.

We see you. And starting now, we're making sure everyone else does, too.

Wayne Township Schools is thrilled to announce The Wayne Way Volunteer Award, a new program designed to honor the volunteers who give their time, heart, and energy to our schools and students.

What's The Wayne Way?

The Wayne Way is how we do things here in Wayne Township. It's how we learn together, support each other, and show up for our kids—even when it's hard, especially when it matters most. This award celebrates the people who live that commitment every single day.

"Our volunteers don't just fill gaps—they build bridges," said Superintendent Dr. Shenia Suggs. "They connect students to opportunities, schools to communities, and show us what's possible when people care enough to act. This award is our way of saying thank you, and we see the difference you make."

Who Are We Looking For?

Anyone currently volunteering with Wayne Township Schools in any role can be nominated—whether you're reading with kindergarteners, mentoring high schoolers, organizing events, supporting teachers, or lending a hand wherever it's needed.

We're looking to recognize volunteers who demonstrate:

  • Exceptional Commitment – You don't just show up; you consistently go the extra mile and show all the way up
  • Positive Impact on Students – Students learn more, smile more, or feel more supported because you're there
  • School & Community Support – You help create the kind of community where everyone belongs
  • Can be counted on to Lead– People know they can depend on you, and your presence inspires others
  • Walk the talk – You model the values we want our students to see: growth, equity, high expectations, integrity, and trust

How to Nominate

Teachers, staff, administrators, parents, community members—even students—can nominate someone who's making a difference. Just fill out a quick form on our website each month.

A small review team will select one to three honorees each month, and we'll celebrate them at a Board of Education meeting and share their stories with our entire community. Because good work deserves to be recognized, and great volunteers deserve to be celebrated.

Let's Celebrate Our People

This award is about people who care. People who give what they can. People who believe, like we do, that showing up for kids is some of the most important work there is.

If that's someone you know—please nominate them. Let's make sure they know how much they matter.
