Ryan Madsen Named June Wayne Way Volunteer Award Winner

Ryan Madsen Named June Wayne Way Volunteer Award Winner

Great schools don't happen without great communities — and great communities don't happen without great schools. That spirit of partnership is exactly what the Wayne Way Volunteer Award celebrates each month, honoring volunteers who go above and beyond for our students and schools.

This June, the district is proud to recognize Ryan Madsen, a Ben Davis graduate who has given back to Wayne Township for more than 15 years as coordinator of the Robey PTO Basketball Program.

Each year, the Robey PTO Basketball Program serves between 100 and 200 students, giving boys and girls a structured, safe, and supportive place to learn the game of basketball. Ryan has donated thousands of hours to the program — organizing volunteers, listening to parents, coaches, and players, and making sure every detail runs smoothly.

But what truly sets Ryan apart is his commitment to making sure every child has a chance to play. Transportation needs, financial challenges, and disabilities are never barriers at Robey's program, because Ryan and his team of volunteers work to create a level playing field for any student who wants to participate. For many children, this program is their only opportunity to be part of an athletic team — and it's made possible entirely by volunteers.

Ryan's impact extends well beyond the court. Many former Robey players return as assistant coaches, staying involved in a positive way and serving as role models for the next generation of players. Through Ryan's leadership, volunteers model and teach the value of giving back to your community — lessons that stay with students long after they leave Robey.

Ryan Madsen was honored at the June 8 school board meeting for his dedication and commitment to giving every child a chance to play. Ryan exemplifies The Wayne Way in every sense, and the district is grateful for his years of service to our students and schools.

Congratulations, Ryan — and thank you for everything you do for our community!
